Marketing Science & Analytics Professional for CPG, E-commerce, & Retail
I’m Daran J. Johnson, and since 2005 I’ve helped Fortune 500 companies and SMBs in CPG, ecommerce, and retail transform marketing data into meaningful insights. I’ve worked both as a consultant and as an in-house resource. For nearly 14 years, I co-led Fujo, Inc., a successful digital marketing and analytics firm, where I managed a talented team of marketers and analysts. Through this work, I’ve seen firsthand how data-driven best practices can power measurable marketing success.
Analytics & Coding: Reproducible, Insight-Driven Workflows
At the heart of great marketing analytics is reproducibility—analyses that can be easily updated, shared, and scaled. That’s why I’ve invested deeply in analytical programming. My language of choice is R—for its intuitive syntax, powerful visualization, and native statistical capabilities. Fully code-based analysis allows for fast iteration, automated documentation, and adaptability as business needs evolve.
While R remains my preferred tool for statistical analysis and visualization, I also work with Python, especially for data engineering and systems integration. I enjoy the complementary strengths of both languages and bring their combined value to my client work.
Platforms: The Power of GCP & BigQuery
I’ve been hands-on with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) since its early days. Its suite of tools, especially BigQuery, enables scalable and cost-effective data collection, storage, and analysis. Integrating data from GA4, Google Ads, and other sources into a unified environment allows for truly holistic marketing insights.
R and GCP are a powerful combination. Over the years, I’ve delivered numerous projects using these technologies—giving stakeholders clarity on marketing performance, customer behavior, and business growth opportunities.
Marketing Insights: It’s About the Story
At the end of the day, analytics is about impact. It’s not just about the data—it’s about asking the right questions, finding meaningful answers, and communicating results clearly to decision-makers. I’ve spent years honing the strategic communication skills necessary to deliver insights to executives, technical teams, and non-technical audiences alike.
Great insights don’t live in spreadsheets—they drive action. Whether I’m building a dashboard, leading a workshop, or presenting to leadership, I focus on crafting compelling data stories that make sense and move the business forward.
